Fractions on a number line
Today in class we watched this video about putting fractions on a number line when the denominator is 1. Tonight I would like the students to watch this video about putting fractions on a number line when the denominator is other than 1. I have asked them to take notes on the video. I have reminded them that the important part of these videos is learning the math. Therefore, I suggest that they watch through the whole video once for understanding, and then rewind to take notes, stopping as needed. I hope they enjoy this, and come away with a deeper understanding of fractions.

Backwards Day
Yesterday we celebrated Backwards Day. Many students came to school with their clothes on backwards. Then we decided that we would turn all of the desks around so that they would be backwards, too. Here is what the classroom looked like.
Today it was back to business. The students created fraction posters in math.
Then we read some poetry together before creating our own. There are a lot of talented writers in the room, and it was wonderful hearing them share.

Poetry
We started our poetry unit this week. We are reading Love That Dog by Sharon Creech together during reader's workshop. Students are also reading a variety of poems independently. Additionally, we are reading Pizza, Pigs and Poetry by Jack Prelutsky during writer's workshop, and writing lots of poetry following various formats. Here is a fun website that your children can use at home to create poetry. I hope you all have some fun with it!
