Spring planting

Third graders have some exciting news!  We have planted a garden, and the seeds have started to sprout.  Here are some pictures of the students making observations of the seedlings.

Book fair volunteers needed

Mrs. Williamson has mentioned that she is in need for volunteers for the upcoming book fair.  She will be setting up on Monday, April 27 at 8:45 and breaking down on Friday 5/1 at 12:15.  If you are able to help at either or those times please contact her with your availability.   She is also looking for volunteers to come in during our library time to help your children buy their books.  The time for that is Monday at 2:00.  Thanks so much for all you do to make our school wonderful.

Granny Torelli Makes Soup

     As I mentioned in an earlier post, we have been reading Granny Torelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech.  One of the main characters is Bailey, who is blind.  This week Mrs. Ristaino brought us some braille books from the library, and we were able to see what it looked and felt like.  Ask your child what this experience was like.   Here are some pictures of the children reading the braille books.

 

     Throughout the first half of Granny Torelli Makes Soup, the characters make soup, and have some great conversations.  Throughout the second half of the book, the characters make pasta from scratch.  This coming week I am planning to bring in the ingredients to have the students make pasta from scratch. They don't know this yet, so try to keep it a secret!   Look for the finished pasta to come home some day this week.  If you have any questions about this activity, please let me know.
