Lots of exciting things have been happening in room 16

We have had a very busy and productive couple of weeks.   The class has earned another treat, and voted to have a  Lego Day.  We spent about 30 minutes playing with Legos, coloring Lego pictures, and writing Lego stories.  A fun time was had by all.

We have spent some time preparing for the new PARCC test.  We have learned many new tools that can be used on the computer-based program.  Ask your child to tell you about all of the different types of questions, and the helpful tools available.  See our earlier post to find tutorials as well as practice tests.  The children also took practice tests this week, and I thought you might like to see their wonderful engagement.

It is interesting to me how much the children enjoy taking this type of test.  Computers clearly are their medium of choice.

Finally, we did several fun things to celebrate Read Across America week.  Mrs. Ristaino and Stephanie (my daughter) came in and read with the children.  We also spent some time in Mrs Zarrella's class reading with her students.  Here are some pictures of that.

We have been busy with other things as well.  We just received our latest letters from our penpals, and will be writing back to them this week.  After that we will be writing another personal narrative during Writer's Workshop.  We have been learning about inferring during Reader's Workshop while reading Granny Torelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech.  We have started learning about fractions, while continuing the practice math facts during Math Workshop.
